The Elements of the Signs of the Horoscope
Once a specific astrological sign is determine for individuals, the patterns and trends that comprise the horoscope clearly show certain astral compatibility. The signs of the horoscope are divided into certain elements: earth, water, fire and air. The earth signs are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. The water signs are Pisces, Cancer and Scorpio. The fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. The air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. Individuals born under signs with these elements may unconsciously possess similar traits as the elements. For instance, horoscope compatibility between the elemental signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn imply that as earth signs there are certain relative patterns to behaviors, likes and dislikes and attitudes.

The sign of Taurus the Bull is an example. Delving into the behaviors of the ordinary bull, there is a certain amount of aggression, lassitude and iconic stubbornness. Yet, the bull is also committed to the duty of breeding, after which he is contented to enjoy solitude. Conversely, a water sign like Scorpio would possess certain secretive behaviors similar to the secrets hidden in the depths of the sea. How a Scorpio deals with aggression is likened in nature to the scorpion it represents. The scorpion simply backs off, waits for the opportune moment, injects its deadly venom, and the enemy is satisfactorily defeated. A Taurus would approach the enemy like the proverbial bull in the china shop or a bull with a red flag waved in its view. This is the best example of horoscope incompatibility.

Compatibility
In terms of horoscope compatibility, most of the triplicity of the signs are easily compatible with each other. Pisces, Cancer and Scorpio understand their inherent need for privacy. Gemini, Libra and Aquarius, gregarious in nature, may understand it, but are not likely to possess the secretive nature of those of the water triplicity. The same is true of fire signs, Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Individuals born under these signs tend to be impulsive in the way that a Gemini, Libra or Aquarius would admire, though not imitate. And, isn't fire highly impulsive while air is needed to ignite the smoke that turns to flame? Early mankind's knowledge was centrally focused on nature's elements for survival and keen observations of the interaction between these elements. Basing horoscope compatibility upon elements of earth, air, fire and water is key to astrological history and practice.
